Story of a Thousand Seasons Past
“I will read it when the days don’t move so fast. It’s the story of a thousand seasons past.” – The Rentals
I tend to get bored easily when things stay the same for too long. That’s probably why I love the change of seasons so much. I can appreciate each season for different reasons and it’s hard for me to decide on my favorite time of year (ok I’ll be honest – it’s hard for me to decide on anything). Each season is just long enough for me to enjoy the pros and change just before I get sick of the cons. Winter (if you can call it winter in southern CA) has recently ended and Spring is definitely in the air. I get this nostalgic, almost melancholy feeling every year during this particular season change. And as I get older, the feeling seems to get stronger.
Spring is widely known as a rebirth and perhaps that’s why the purge of winter feels very cleansing. A lot of people choose New Year’s to stop and think about the last year of their life and make aspirations for the upcoming one. However, I have always naturally felt that Spring is the best time for these sort of reflections on life. Certain aromas in the air can spark a memory from years in the past. I start to ask myself question like “who I was during this time of year five or ten years ago?” or “what were my hopes and dreams back then?”
Naturally this topic of conversation brings up thoughts about how time goes by so fast. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that you have to live in the moment and enjoy every second while you can. Spring is a yearly reminder for me to do exactly that. Each breath of fresh air and cool breeze reminds me of how abundant life can be if you take a second to step back and notice. I don’t want to spend my life waiting for the right time to do what makes me happy. I’m just not that patient.
Check out The Rentals’ new song which inspired this post:

This song is off The Rentals’ new “mini album,” which is just one facet of their newest project, “Songs About Time.” Their newest endeavor, which will be released in three parts over the course of this year, seems really interesting because it ranges from music to film and art. I love when artists from different formats and backgrounds get together to create something bigger. In this case, they created 52 films in 52 weeks! Read more about it and download the new song at RCRD LBL.
